UAW Regions

To make sure that the concerns of the members of this diverse union are well represented and to bring the resources and support of the International Union closer to members at the local union level, the UAW is divided into 11 regions.

UAW regional directors are elected to four-year terms by delegates elected at the local union level. The regional director elections take place at the UAW Constitutional Convention in separate regional meetings.

The regional director is a member's representative on the UAW International Executive Board. In addition, the regional director is responsible for implementing the Union's policies and programs at the regional level and directing the International Representatives assigned to each region.

The regional director and staff help the local union bargaining committee negotiate contracts and administer and enforce each collective bargaining agreement.

Many other important union activities, such as education programs and political action, are coordinated at the regional level.
